Tattoo Aftercare

Tattoo artists’ and tattooed people’s preferred ways of caring for fresh tattoos differ greatly.

Some tattoo artists advise wrapping a new tattoo for the first 24 hours, while others advocate removing temporary bandaging after two hours or less to enable the skin to breathe.

Many tattoo artists advise against bathing in a hot tub, pool, or soaking in a tub for the first two weeks to prevent the tattoo ink from washing off. Other artists, on the other hand, recommend that a new tattoo be immersed in very hot water right away.

In recent years, dedicated commercial solutions for tattoo aftercare have been created. Although opinions on these items differ, soap and warm water work well to maintain a tattoo clean and infection-free.

To avoid scorching or drying out the tattoo too soon, fragrance-free soaps and soaps containing alcohol should not be used to clean it.
