Tattoo Aftercare
Tattoo artists’ and tattooed people’s preferred methods of caring for new tattoos are vastly different.
Wrapping a new tattoo for the first 24 hours is recommended by some tattoo artists, while others recommend removing temporary bandaging after two hours or less to allow the skin to breathe.
To prevent the tattoo ink from washing out, many tattoo artists advise not swimming in a hot tub, pool, or soaking in a tub for the first two weeks. Other artists, on the other hand, advise immersing a new tattoo in very hot water right away.
In recent years, dedicated commercial tattoo aftercare products have been developed. Although opinions vary, soap and warm water work well to keep a tattoo clean and infection-free.
Fragrance-free soaps and soaps containing alcohol should not be used to clean the tattoo to avoid burning or drying it off too quickly.
